KCI Airport welcomed 9.9 million passengers in 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport recorded 803,314 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in December, which represents an increase of 3.0. percent from December 2009. For all of 2010, total traffic at KCI was 9,912,203, an increase of 1.4 percent from 2009. Passenger boardings at KCI were up 3.5 percent, with a total of 404,886 during December. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 4,972,636, an increase of 1.7 percent from the same period last year.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for December was 196. Service was offered to 49 nonstop markets. There was an average of 38,160 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, down 0.6 percent from last year.
“With a 1.4 percent increase from 2009, 2010 marks the first year-over-year passenger gain at KCI since 2007,” said Director of Aviation Mark VanLoh. “We are grateful to our passengers and airline partners who provide excellent service to our region and we look forward to working with them to expand their offerings at KCI in the coming years.”
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were down 2.7 percent in December. For the year to date, air cargo at KCI is down 1.8 percent from the same period last year. Air freight handled at KCI during December amounted to over 16 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year decrease of 2.0 percent. Air mail for December was down 18.9 percent from December 2009. The all-cargo carriers reported five daily departures for December.
