Winter Air Traveler Advice from Kansas City International Airport
The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy snow in the region. Kansas City Aviation Department crews are at the ready to begin snow removal. Travelers are advised to check flight status on www.flykci.com or call their airline, not the airport, prior to driving to KCI.
Some airlines that serve Kansas City International Airport cancelled flights today, Monday, and some flights are already cancelled for Tuesday and into Wednesday. In some cases the cancellations are due to anticipated winter weather in other cities. Most airlines are giving travelers the opportunity to reschedule flights in advance of the storm without extra charges or fees on flights planned Monday through Wednesday. Some have extended that time period.
KCI maintenance crews have pretreated aircraft movement areas with deicing agents and sand to prevent ice buildup, and crews have done preventative maintenance on snow removal equipment. Crews are at the ready to begin snow removal on the airfield, roadways and sidewalks to help keep customers safe. During snow and ice storms, crews work continuously on 12-hour shifts.
Economy Parking has heated shelters and Standard Parking offers provides dig-out service and jump-starts in all on-airport parking lots. The service is available by calling Standard at 816-243-5870.
The Kansas City Airport System is an Enterprise Fund Department of the City of Kansas City, Mo., and is supported wholly by airport user charges. No general tax fund revenues are used for the administration, promotion, operation, or maintenance of the airports in the system. Visit www.flykci.com for more information.
